This programme traces the origins of the rescue service from World War 1 until recent times, from the Flying Boats through to the sophisticated helicopters now in service, including "Real Life" footage of dramatic and dangerous rescues recorded on film by the rescue teams.

The progress and developments of the prototypes influenced both the politics and economics of the era leading eventually to the dual nationality of the aircraft, complex construction processes and massive overspends in the race for civil aviation supremacy.

As concorde prepared to enter service her great potential for dominating the skies was being challenged by the new large aircraft being built by the Americans, Concorde would be much faster, but the US aircraft were cheaper to operate.

Other aircraft could not come close to matching her swiftness and elegance, still, breaking into the ll important American market would prove difficult as Concorde evolved so did the market challanges.

Narrator David Coleman gives a vivid account of the history of one of London's most famous stations and its associated Great Central Railway and Hotel.

The station first built in 1899 when it had only four platforms was in its halycon days graced by some of the most famous names such as the Flyinf Scotsman and The Mallard.

The moving moment is recorded when the last commercial Black Five steams out of the station and rare film footage documents its historic progress north en route to Nottingham.

Marylebones links with the Golden Age of Steam still linger even today and since 1985 steam specials have been run, we join the Sir Nigel Gresley on its majestic way down the line to Stratford Upon Avon thus recreasting a bygone era in an unforgettable way.
